Pop Art was brought into the modern world in the 1950’s and 60’s. It began in America and Great Britain.
After World War 2, the public was still
recovering from deaths or injuries. Then
modern culture came and blew people away. Colour T.V, fast food and bright
colours jazzed up people’s daily lives. Artist’s ( like Andy Warhol) saw how this new culture affected the public’s moods. So they
decided to bring a new style of art in with this culture. They called this new style, ‘Pop Art’.
At first Art Critics were baffled by this new style. Pop Art is sculptures and paintings of everyday objects-for example soup cans. Together with this the artist’s used bright
colours to catch the public’s attention. People were amazed by this fun and groovy new style. Crowds were drawn to art galleries to see the works of art including Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe. At last the Critic's had agreed.
Even today, Pop Art is still popular all over the world. You can view them in art galleries and learn about the artists on the internet.
